About the role

Galway City Innovation District (GCID) is seeking to recruit a CTO in Residence to participate in Startup related activities such as technical mentoring, architectural review, and Hackathons as well as identifying and owning initiatives to make a huge impact on the Galway Startup ecosystem.

About you:

Are you passionate about helping Start-ups use technology to develop and deploy large scale applications? Do you have a unique combination of entrepreneurship experience, deep technical expertise, business acumen and strong interpersonal skills? If you answer yes to any of the above – Come build a world class tech ecosystem with us here at GCID!

The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of the tech/startup world, and be the kind of person that would happily spend a weekend at a hackathon, reading a startup book or are naturally drawn to reading articles about the latest developments in innovation and technology.

Overview

The CTO in residence will take on community activities, hold office hours, and lead in start up programmes delivered to our members and the wonder start-up community, educating them on value propositions and participating in deep architectural discussions with startups, to ensure their solutions are designed for successful deployment and scale.

The ideal candidate will possess customer facing skills that will allow you to communicate and speak with authority about a broad range of technical topics. The CTO in Residence should also have a demonstrable ability to think strategically about business, products, and technical challenges. There’s a good chance you’re coming off a wild startup rocket ship ride (or two or three!) and looking to shift gears to make a big impact on the startup community in the West of Ireland.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and build technical relationships within the startup ecosystem, including accelerators, incubators and VCs
  • Mentor startups in our members community and wider startup ecosystem.
  • Help startups to adopt the right architecture at each part of their life cycle
  • Develop technical content, such as blog posts to assist customers solve technical problems and reduce time-to-market
  • Design and deliver startup-related industry events such as hackathons and user-groups
  • Support startups in architecting scalable, reliable and secure solutions
  • Provide guidance on building technology teams and Recruitment advise and support

Opportunity Startup Engagement coordination – work with Startup Team to curate startups for various global startup opportunities such as GFE Campus Exchange, Demo Day, accelerators etc

Opportunity promotion – work with Startups & Community Teams to effectively promote GFE opportunities e.g. Campus Exchange, Blackbox Connect, Demo Day etc

You are the founder or have senior leadership experience in a high-growth Corporate. Preferably you also have experience mentoring and coaching Startups.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 7+ years of experience in the design and implementation of complex IT solutions (including scalable cloud-based solutions and microservices architectures)
  • Practical operational experience including monitoring application and infrastructure performance and reliability
  • Deep understanding of technologies in the open source developer ecosystem, including IDEs, developer frameworks, continuous integration platforms
  • Knowledge of the latest developments in analytics solutions.
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills
  • A passion for startups and a genuine desire to make an impact on the West and North West startup ecosystem

The Portershed is a coworking space for Technology focused Innovation Driven Enterprises. At Portershed our focus is to build, grow, scale and innovate the Galway Tech ecosystem. Community, Collaboration and Coworking are the three pillars of the Portershed. The Portershed is the first building of the Galway City Innovation District. The PorterShed delivers both hybrid and in-house events. The expansion of Portershed has opened the door to hire a production manager that will develop and deliver every aspect of in-house, hybrid and virtual events. The PorterShed will engage internal and external audiences through the creation and delivery of live & virtual experiences, film, digital, and immersive content.

 

Job Title: Production Manager

Reports To: CEO

Key Working Relationships: Programme Manager, Community Manager, Marketing

Key Responsibilities: Managing production on all virtual, in-person and blended programmes and events; In house Videography and Photography

 

ROLE OVERVIEW 

 

The Production Manager is an integral part of everything we do at the Portershed. You will take the lead in every aspect of the production process for live, virtual, and blended programmes and events. Whilst there is a significant planning/management element within the role, it is also a very technical role, with emphasis on working with the PorterShed team to deliver the technical aspects of programmes and events. The Production Manager’s core responsibilities will also include support for our member community, acting as point of contact for our communications room, high level IT support, network setup and troubleshooting. Someone with passion, enthusiasm and creativity will excel in this role. This role is ideal for a candidate who enjoys the challenge of working under their own initiative, supported by a great team.

 

Technical Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualification in Audio Visual or equivalent experience.
  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in Audio Visual or a related subject
  • Up to date technical knowledge.
  • Extensive experience working as a producer/production manager/audio-visual events manager/senior technician for live events is essential and for virtual events is desirable.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software configuration
  • Excellent working knowledge of Virtual meeting platforms/tools and technologies (such as Zoom, Hop.in, YouTube) and a proven capacity for skills acquisition in this area.
  • Rigging Experience desirable
  • Proficient in the ADOBE suite and DaVinci Resolve
  • Experience Videographer and Professional photography experience desirable

GCID is looking for a Production Manager to work with our small but mighty team; the new hire will work with a team of community builders and creators, to ensure the development and delivery of programmes and events around entrepreneurship in the West of Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility for technical aspects of event and programme production for internal initiatives, partner projects, and external clients.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out under best practice guidelines
  • Consider, research, evaluate and develop the event specification from a technical perspective, including but not limited to lighting, sound, AV, IT and construction
  • Ensure any client and supplier dealings are exercised with the utmost diligence and always with the Agency and client in mind
  • Work collaboratively across several key disciplines, clearly articulate the brief and involvement required and actively respond to assigned demands/priorities, ensuring each activity is delivered in accordance with expectations.
  • Effectively negotiate and manage the allocation of production budgets to ensure funds are utilised appropriately
  • Engage suppliers in regular audits to evaluate progress
  • Collate and distribute action plans to aid project management, including but not limited to timelines, build schedules, production schedules, facilitators guide and contact sheets,
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the Hybrid & Virtual/Live Events teams to ensure projects are technically fit for purpose.
  • Maintain up to date technical knowledge and expertise around delivery techniques/equipment
  • Excellent working knowledge of Virtual meeting platforms/tools and technologies (Zoom & MS Teams in particular)
  • Ability to multitask and manage own time (with support from the operations team), work under pressure and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Source and Maintain production and other relevant equipment. 
  • Rigging and de-rigging audio, lighting, audio visual, video/data sets and display equipment in accordance with general health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Oversee safe storage and maintenance of equipment, ensuring the production studio is always ready. 
  • Flexibility in core office hours to accommodate evening and weekend events. 
  • To assist in the delivery of Event ICT, which would include but not limited to, running network cables, basic network troubleshooting, VLan association, IP subnet address configuration, setting up printers and IP Phones
  • Consider, research, evaluate and develop the event specification from a technical perspective, including but not limited to lighting, sound, AV, IT and construction
  • Effectively negotiate and manage the allocation of production budgets to ensure funds are utilised appropriately
  • Utilise experience and knowledge to provide clarity of approach
  • Provide technical support and guidance on hybrid and  virtual/live events to ensure projects are technically fit for purpose.

Terms:

  • One year fixed term contract subject to renewal
  • Salary commensurate with experience

The Galway City Innovation District (‘GCID’) was founded in 2015 to develop an innovation district in downtown Galway City and accelerate the regional technology ecosystem. The primary focus of GCID is creating high-value sustainable jobs in the West of Ireland. In 2016, GCID opened its first building, the PorterShed  The PorterShed is a coworking space for technology focused Innovation Driven Enterprises. We are home to over 41 companies, and have provided a first-home in Ireland to six Foreign Direct investment companies. We do this by creating a warm, welcoming and fun community, while also providing an office space to be proud of. We cater to the needs of a diverse range of companies, including start-ups, SMEs, and rapidly scaling companies. The Board and management team at GCID are ambitious and driven, but most importantly we love what we do.

 

Role Summary

The expansion of Portershed has opened the door to hire a Hybrid Office Manager who can focus on the emerging needs of a hybrid work environment, and the health and safety of Portshed staff and Members. The post-holder will have an opportunity to support the onboarding of new indeginous and FDI companies to our community, oversee Health and Safety compliance and deliver a seamless hybrid work model for our members and community.  Initially a one year contract, this new hire will be tasked specifically with compliance and implementation of government guidelines, as well as member engagement in any such guidelines. The Return to Work Manager will ensure members are well informed of guidelines, that their unique circumstances are catered for, enabling them to return to work comfortably, safely, and in full compliance of government regulations. 

 

Job Title: Hybrid Office Manager

Reports To: CEO

Key Working Relationships: Community Manager, Marketing, Admin & Accounts

Key Responsibilities: Manage health and safety protocols for PorterShed 

Members and Staff; Efficiently onboard indegnious and FDI member companies.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the return-to-work needs of PorterShed staff and member companies
  • Develop, document, rollout and monitor policies relating to health and safety, always in keeping with government guidelines 
  • Business development support; you will work with the PorterShed Team in all aspects of member recruitment and retention, with a particular focus on health and safety guidelines. 
  • Provide soft-landing support to FDI companies based in PorterShed, particularly advising and catering to needs regarding health and safety
  • Provide general guidance on work-place policy to member companies

Responsibilities

  • Maintain our Member Company CRM, including desk allocation in keeping with government guidelines so that we always know who is using the co-working facility, and their compliance with guidelines.
  • Interact with clients and build relationships with them while ensuring their needs are being met and government guidelines are being followed. 
  • Mastermind creative ways to deliver an exceptional client experience, in keeping with the PorterShed’s core values of innovation, creativity and fun. 
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of client service protocols. 
  • Promote the PorterShed’s Hot Desking facilities, ensuring a seamless experience for short term remote workers and maintaining health and safety standards.
  • Serve as Lead Worker Representative per the Government’s Work Safely Protocol.
  • Cater to the diverse needs of our member base, ensuring they enjoy a customised experience, while still conforming to PorterShed rules. 
  • Resolve client problems or disputes in a professional manner.
  • Coach and support team members to ensure we are all up to date and informed on guidelines. 

ABOUT YOU

 

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, business management, marketing, sales, accounting, or comparable relevant qualifications (e.g. Human Resources)
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a client-facing role
  • A keen learner, you have kept abreast of government regulations and Covid Guidelines, and have initiated or led health and safety policies previously
  • Has hands-on experience with CRM platforms, or the ability to learn new software quickly.
