The Portershed is a coworking space for Technology focused Innovation Driven Enterprises. At Portershed our focus is to build, grow, scale and innovate the Galway Tech ecosystem. Community, Collaboration and Coworking are the three pillars of the Portershed. The Portershed is the first building of the Galway City Innovation District. The PorterShed delivers both hybrid and in-house events. The expansion of Portershed has opened the door to hire a production manager that will develop and deliver every aspect of in-house, hybrid and virtual events. The PorterShed will engage internal and external audiences through the creation and delivery of live & virtual experiences, film, digital, and immersive content.


Job Title: Production Manager

Reports To: CEO

Key Working Relationships: Programme Manager, Community Manager, Marketing

Key Responsibilities: Managing production on all virtual, in-person and blended programmes and events; In house Videography and Photography




The Production Manager is an integral part of everything we do at the Portershed. You will take the lead in every aspect of the production process for live, virtual, and blended programmes and events. Whilst there is a significant planning/management element within the role, it is also a very technical role, with emphasis on working with the PorterShed team to deliver the technical aspects of programmes and events. The Production Manager’s core responsibilities will also include support for our member community, acting as point of contact for our communications room, high level IT support, network setup and troubleshooting. Someone with passion, enthusiasm and creativity will excel in this role. This role is ideal for a candidate who enjoys the challenge of working under their own initiative, supported by a great team.


Technical Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualification in Audio Visual or equivalent experience.
  • Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in Audio Visual or a related subject
  • Up to date technical knowledge.
  • Extensive experience working as a producer/production manager/audio-visual events manager/senior technician for live events is essential and for virtual events is desirable.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software configuration
  • Excellent working knowledge of Virtual meeting platforms/tools and technologies (such as Zoom, Hop.in, YouTube) and a proven capacity for skills acquisition in this area.
  • Rigging Experience desirable
  • Proficient in the ADOBE suite and DaVinci Resolve
  • Experience Videographer and Professional photography experience desirable

GCID is looking for a Production Manager to work with our small but mighty team; the new hire will work with a team of community builders and creators, to ensure the development and delivery of programmes and events around entrepreneurship in the West of Ireland.

  • Has the ability and confidence to identify risks and make dynamic decisions to maintain a high standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility for technical aspects of event and programme production for internal initiatives, partner projects, and external clients.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out under best practice guidelines
  • Consider, research, evaluate and develop the event specification from a technical perspective, including but not limited to lighting, sound, AV, IT and construction
  • Ensure any client and supplier dealings are exercised with the utmost diligence and always with the Agency and client in mind
  • Work collaboratively across several key disciplines, clearly articulate the brief and involvement required and actively respond to assigned demands/priorities, ensuring each activity is delivered in accordance with expectations.
  • Effectively negotiate and manage the allocation of production budgets to ensure funds are utilised appropriately
  • Engage suppliers in regular audits to evaluate progress
  • Collate and distribute action plans to aid project management, including but not limited to timelines, build schedules, production schedules, facilitators guide and contact sheets,
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the Hybrid & Virtual/Live Events teams to ensure projects are technically fit for purpose.
  • Maintain up to date technical knowledge and expertise around delivery techniques/equipment
  • Excellent working knowledge of Virtual meeting platforms/tools and technologies (Zoom & MS Teams in particular)
  • Ability to multitask and manage own time (with support from the operations team), work under pressure and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Source and Maintain production and other relevant equipment. 
  • Rigging and de-rigging audio, lighting, audio visual, video/data sets and display equipment in accordance with general health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Oversee safe storage and maintenance of equipment, ensuring the production studio is always ready. 
  • Flexibility in core office hours to accommodate evening and weekend events. 
  • To assist in the delivery of Event ICT, which would include but not limited to, running network cables, basic network troubleshooting, VLan association, IP subnet address configuration, setting up printers and IP Phones
  • Consider, research, evaluate and develop the event specification from a technical perspective, including but not limited to lighting, sound, AV, IT and construction
  • Effectively negotiate and manage the allocation of production budgets to ensure funds are utilised appropriately
  • Utilise experience and knowledge to provide clarity of approach
  • Provide technical support and guidance on hybrid and  virtual/live events to ensure projects are technically fit for purpose.


  • One year fixed term contract subject to renewal
  • Salary commensurate with experience
